TU Incubator to Host EdTech Innovation Showcase
TU Incubator is proud to announce Speak Agent, Inc. as one of the featured EdTech companies presenting at the EdTech Innovation Showcase on December 8, 2016. The EdTech Innovation Showcase is a networking event featuring education entrepreneurs who are solving today’s K–12 and post-secondary challenges. The showcase will bring together regional EdTech companies and representatives from schools, colleges, universities, along with channel partners and investors.
On having Speak Agent featured at the EdTech Innovation Showcase Frank Bonsal III, Director of Towson University Entrepreneurship, said “We are very excited to have Speak Agent present at our showcase. Ben is a great example of an entrepreneur who saw a problem in education and created an innovative solution.”
Speak Agent Featured At EdTech Innovation Showcase
Founded in 2013 by Ben Grimley, Speak Agent is a digital learning platform that addresses the English Language Learning (ELL) achievement gap at the elementary level by providing interactive lessons with audiovisual supports. It effortlessly adapts to each district, educator and learner to meet their specific academic vocabulary needs. Speak Agent helps educators meet the precise vocabulary needs of English and Spanish language learners by giving teachers the power to create custom digital materials in minutes without any technical know-how.
Speak Agent is addressing a real problem faced by ELL students. In fact, in Montgomery County, Maryland, where Speak Agent is based, there is a 500% gap in the graduation rate between the ELL and non-ELL student populations. The significance of this problem is well-recognized at the regional and national levels. In recognition of this Speak Agent has been awarded a Phase II SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation to further develop the technology and undertake an efficacy study. In addition to the SBIR grant Speak Agent has received funding from the Tedco Technology Commercialization Fund and NewSchools Venture Fund Ignite Grant.
CEO Ben Grimley said “We are excited to be part of the Edtech Innovation Showcase and proud to have been selected to present our solution to bridging the achievement gap for non-native English speakers. The TU Incubator is the perfect venue for up-and-coming companies like ours to get in front of the right educators and investors who are today’s agents of change”.
